Project Goal
The goal of this project was to modernize and expand Canadian Tire Corporation’s enterprise GIS capabilities to enable scalable, self-serve geospatial insights across real estate, retail, and enterprise decision support functions. The initiative focused on building a secure, resilient GIS platform and delivering intuitive applications that allow business teams to independently explore performance, market conditions, risks, and forecast scenarios – reducing the dependency on manual, ad hoc analysis while improving the speed and quality of decision making.Business Problem Solved
Canadian Tire Corp. operates a large and diverse retail portfolio across Canada, whose operations are supported by multiple enterprise functions (real estate, decision support, corporate development, loyalty partnerships, enterprise risk, etc) that rely on timely location-based insights. Historically, geospatial analysis was siloed, manual, and – given the breadth of subject areas and stakeholders – difficult to scale, resulting in longer turnaround times and inconsistent outputs.
This project addressed those challenges by transitioning from ad hoc GIS workflows to a centralized enterprise GIS platform with self-serve applications, giving business users direct access to trusted geospatial data and analysis, reducing reliance on manual requests and freeing up the GIS team to focus on higher-value strategic work.
This initiative has highlighted GIS as a strategic decision support capability across the organization, drawing in 400+ users in the first year of operation.
Technology Implemented
The solution was implemented using Esri’s Enterprise GIS stack, including:
ArcGIS Enterprise for secure, internally hosted Web GIS capabilities that support enterprise-wide access and collaboration.
ArcGIS Pro for our GIS Professionals, supporting advanced analytics, data management, and process development.
ArcGIS Online to support select web maps and application deployment where appropriate (i.e. application and data do not contain confidential information and are meant to be customer facing)
ArcGIS Dashboards, Experience Builders, and Instant Apps to deliver self-serve tools that give the organization’s non-technical users easy access to key geospatial information and market insights.
Enterprise Sites to launch Triangle Atlas – a one-stop shop that allows our users to explore data that’s available, dashboards, static maps, resources, and get to try their hand at map making.
