NAMA Dhofar Services Company SAOC

Project Goal

This project delivers the successful transformation of NAMA’s legacy Geometric Network, previously managed with ArcFM, into the modern ArcGIS Utility Network, creating a more accurate, scalable, and intelligent platform for managing water and electrical systems. The initiative included redesigning the data model, performing comprehensive data cleansing, and configuring a robust network aligned with industry’s best practices.
Beyond migration, the project introduced integrated applications and dashboards to enhance daily operations and decision-making. These include asset tracking, customer load analysis through a Consumption Dashboard, and a centralized NOC platform for planning and managing excavation activities while reducing field risks. The solution also supports asset inspection and maintenance workflows, enabling teams to detect issues, dispatch crews, update statuses in real time, and monitor activities through operational dashboards.

Business Problem Solved

NAMA faced major challenges with its legacy Geometric Network as ArcMap and ArcFM approach retirement after 2026, limiting support, scalability, and access to modern GIS capabilities. Migrating to the ArcGIS Utility Network resolved technology obsolescence and enabled advanced functionality.
The new system introduced enhanced network tracing and connectivity analysis, improving operational visibility and decision-making. Data quality was strengthened through advanced editing tools, validation rules, and controlled workflows. Load monitoring capabilities now support better planning and efficiency, while asset counting across feeders is automated using subnetwork tracing.
Custom tools simplified subnetwork updates, and predefined templates streamlined asset creation, reducing manual effort and errors. Additionally, the integrated NOC Excavation Management Platform helps detect conflicts across utility networks, minimizing field risks and improving coordination.

Technology Implemented

The project utilized a comprehensive Esri technology stack to modernize NAMA’s network management and improve operational efficiency across the organization:
• ArcGIS Pro: Core platform for data migration, Utility Network configuration, add-in development, and group template creation (Contractors Template).
• ArcGIS Enterprise: Enabled publishing and secure access to Utility Network services, supporting enterprise-wide applications.
• ArcGIS Dashboards: Used to provide real time visualization by creating Power Consumption Dashboard and Asset Maintenance Dashboard.
• ArcGIS Experience Builder (Developer Edition): Utilized to develop a custom asset management dashboard, as well as to build a New Electric Connection workflow and an Outage Management application.
• ArcGIS Field Maps: Enabled field inspections, asset condition reporting, and capture of peak load readings.
• ArcGIS Workforce: Streamlined task assignment and tracking, allowing teams to update maintenance activities
