Project Goal
Rwanda has through the Ministry in charge of Emergency Management(MINEMA) implemented an Early Warning Information System starting with two hazards i.e: landslide and storms. The system was implemented in collaboration with ESRI Rwanda. EWIS main purpose was to digitize the models provided in the standard operating procedures. The models calculates the risks and inform decision makers of eventual disaster. Early Warning system is also having the capabilities to disseminate warning message in form of email and short message services(sms) to the concerned population in prone area and to local government officials in affected area. The system is also equipped with various dashboard to show historical and current data on the impact of the event of the past or present disasters. This is of paramount importance in response provision and post disaster assessment . The system covers the whole country and currently deals with only two categories of disaster(landslides and storms).Business Problem Solved
By implementing an Early Warning Information System, we've established a system to calculate disaster risk level by the use of predefined disaster models through technology and implement a warning system to help save people's lives and properties.
Technology Implemented
ARC GIS Enterprise was used at the server level but ARC GIS Online Pro is being used by MINEMA staff to publish maps and and maintain EWIS.
