Project Goal

Build a true enterprise GIS solution; something that empowers staff in every city line of business, citizens, academics, and regional community. Through a project-by-project approach GIS staff apply GIS technology to streamline lines of business. Each solution must empower users within that business line, be sustainable, and in some way serve to empower other lines of business.

Business Problem Solved

Silos of both information and processes existed across the City. As such communication and efficiency suffered as our community transitioned from a small to medium city. A common language everyone could understand and work within was needed. GIS was the language/technology/solution we saw unifying our organization.

Technology Implemented

As a realized, core, enterprise solution, a wide swath of esri technologies support Auburn’s success. ArcGIS Portal often represents the center. ArcGIS Online, Hub, Dashboards, Storymaps, WebApp Builder, Business Analyst and custom JavaScript solutions serve a wide audience of users, internally and externally. Survey123, Field Maps, ArcGIS Pro, Drone2Map, and numerous integrations with other core business systems feed knowledge into the solution. Those integrations with financial systems, work order and permitting, public safety and 911, SCADA, MS Project Server, SharePoint, document management, 311, AVL, and many other systems exponentially enrich each other because of and through spatial data.

Development Team Biography

To meet the needs of a passionate community, innovative and thoughtful professionals are required. Information Technology’s GIS department facilitates geospatial collaboration within the organization, the community, and amongst our peers. As a diverse and global team of exceptional professionals, the team is designed to curate solutions that foster ownership of information and decision-making with users.
The team is made up of 8 GIS professionals, project managers & analysts, and solution developers, surrounded by an equally exceptional IT department. We value our colleagues’ success over controlling information, technology elevating communication rather than defining process, and diversity of ideas and solutions driving better progress.
