Project Goal

The Geospatial Section at NATO Headquarters has as a mandate to provide Geospatial Services for the NATO HQ leadership, the Secretary General, the Chair of the Military Committee and the North Atlantic Council.
As the technological landscape continues to rapidly evolve, the need for a more robust, scalable and integrated GIS infrastructure became evident. To address this demand, the Geo Systems & Projects Team has designed, planned and implemented a new ‘big-data-ready’ GIS infrastructure, which offers enhanced capabilities while ensuring performance for the entire users community.
The project, called the NATO HQ Enhanced Geospatial Analytics Eco-system, aimed to deliver the most advanced Enterprise Geospatial capability for NATO Headquarters. By working in close partnership with Esri, the Team was able to deploy the full suite of ArcGIS products on multiple network domains, to enable advanced modelling, simulation, predictive analytics, and extract insight from location-enabled dat

Business Problem Solved

The pervasive nature of Geospatial Services makes them essential for the decision-making process of a Grand Strategic Military and Political Alliance such as NATO. Through this project, we wanted to ensure that our GIS systems operate at the forefront of technology allowing us to provide effective and timely geospatial services to support NATO’s decision makers.

Technology Implemented

ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Server (including server roles for Imagery, Geonalytics, Knowledge, Notebook), GeoEvent Server, ArcGIS Data Stores, ArcGIS Insights, ArcGIS Dashboards, Field Maps, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, ArcGIS Pro.
